Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) announced that Dr. Kambar Khoshaba is the new principal at South County High School in Lorton, effective Friday, July 1.

Khoshaba comes to South County from Western Branch Middle School in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he held the top administrator position since 2014. Last year, he was named the 2021 Middle School Principal of the Year by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals.

Overall, Khoshaba had a 25-year career with Chesapeake Public Schools, having started out as a school psychologist and special education teacher, before moving into an administrative role as an assistant principal in 2002.

According to FCPS Region 4, the hallmarks of Khoshaba’s leadership include “a true commitment to equity and inclusion, and elevating the student voice.” His student-centered approach was featured in a U.S. Department of Education video clip last fall, and a recent article in Education Week highlighted his initiation of a student-led social justice task force at Western Branch.

In his new role, Khoshaba replaces Gary Morris who was a founding member of South County High School’s administrative team and assistant principal from 2005 to 2009, when the school first opened. Morris later assumed the position of principal in August 2018.

Khoshaba holds a Doctorate of Education in education administration from The George Washington University, a Master of Arts in school psychology from Radford University and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Christopher Newport University.
