Rashida Green is the new principal of Bucknell Elementary School (ES), effective Monday, March 7, according to a recent announcement from Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Region 3.
Green, a seasoned administrator and educator with over 18 years of educational experience — including 13 years at FCPS — comes to Bucknell from Forestdale ES in Springfield, Virginia, where she had been serving as assistant principal. She replaces former Bucknell principal LaRonda Peterson who assumed the top administrator position at Riverside Elementary in mid-January.
FCPS Region 3 leadership credited Green with being a highly skilled, data-driven leader with extensive experience in professional development and adult learning, whose commitment to establishing relationships with all stakeholders enabled her to work “collaboratively with school teams to strengthen family engagement by reducing barriers and building connections with the school community.”
Before joining Forestdale, Green was an assistant principal for three years at Willow Springs ES in Fairfax. Prior to that, she was a division-level coach and school-based instructional coach for three years at Mount Vernon High School (HS) and Centreville HS, respectively. Earlier in her career, she taught English at Mount Vernon HS and at Francis C. Hammond Middle School in Alexandria City Public Schools, and served as an administrative intern in the Extended School Year in FCPS.
Green holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Teaching, Grades 7-12, Certification in English Education from the University of Virginia, as well as a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Gifted Child Endorsement from George Mason University. She earned her administrative degree through the LEAD Fairfax Accelerated Certification Cohort from the University of Virginia and holds a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in Administration and Supervision.
