Thrift and consignment stores move to new locations

Goodwill has closed one of its two Richmond Highway locations.

Two stores specializing in the sale of used items are leaving the Richmond Highway corridor for new locations.

Goodwill of Greater Washington officially closed its retail store and donation center at 8228 Richmond Highway March 14.  According to a notice on Goodwill’s website, the store is moving to a new location at 7558 Telegraph Road in Alexandria, which isn’t scheduled to hold its grand opening until April 23 but is accepting donations in the meantime. The nonprofit organization continues to operate another retail store and donation center at 6220 Richmond Highway.

The shuttered Goodwill location, located adjacent to the Megamart Supermarket, has about 15,000 square feet of space for commercial lease.

Meanwhile, Evolution Home — a vintage, antique and consignment home furnishings store at 6239 Shields Avenue — is holding a moving sale before its planned April 15 closure. The store plans to open its new location at 861 S. Pickett Street in the City of Alexandria in May.

The property on which Evolution Home currently is situated is slated to become part of the planned Alexandria Crossing residential housing project.
