Beyond / Hello, a medical cannabis dispensary, will open at the former Great American Steak & Buffet location at 5902 Richmond Highway in Alexandria within the next few months, according to parent company Jushi.
Company representatives said the new location will be comparable to the Beyond / Hello dispensary in Sterling, Virginia, and that more information will be available as the opening date approaches. Beyond / Hello also has a store in Manassas, one targeted to open in Fairfax and several locations in other states.
To shop at a dispensary in Virginia, residents currently must receive written certification from a Board of Pharmacy-registered practitioner, register as a patient with the Board of Pharmacy to receive a Virginia Medical Cannabis ID card, and present those items at the dispensary along with a government-issued photo ID. Starting July 1, 2022, patients will no longer have to register with the Board of Pharmacy after receiving written certification, although they still can opt to do so if they want to receive a physical ID card. There are currently over 50,000 Virginians registered in the medical cannabis program according to Virginia NORML, an accredited state affiliate of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
